YARD PHILOSOPHY
We take time to understand each horse, ensuring they are in a routine that is right for them so that they feel safe and happy in their environment.
We endeavour to provide daily turnout throughout the year and offer a variety of exercise disciplines to keep every horse posturally balanced, supple and athletic. We observe each horse carefully, not rushing but rather enabling them time to work things out and to find thier own improved balance and co-ordination. We look into their eyes as they are the window to their soul.
Every horse has a bespoke diet to cater for their individual needs and we are happy to offer assistance with with any horses’s work routine. The support from the whole team at Sparrow Oast is second to none. We are caring and considerate, we help and show kindness to each other and are respectful, we work as a team and we encourage the same team spirit amongst our clients. We are passionate about welfare and safety, we enjoy humour and happiness and we are strong in the face of adversity.
Rehab livery
Sparrow Oast has been successfully rehabilitating many horses over the years, including those with chronic conditions such as kissing spine and osteoarthritis, or recovering from injury and needing post operative care.
Our knowledge and expertise with our groundwork will enhance your horse’s recovery and return to work. A tailored, specific and structured rehabilitation plan will enable your horse to restore function and strengthen and condition, allowing your horse to work biomechanically without tension or restriction.
We will be adding a land treadmill to our facilities
Our land treadmill will enhance your horse’s rehabilitation in a controlled manner, enabling us to accelerate the rehabilitation. We have and continue to work closely with vets and body workers to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to ensure the successful outcome to your rehabilitation journey.
We will teach the horse to learn a new, improved and healthier movement pattern in his body. By freeing up the body we can encourage the back to stay lifted, we can divert his attention from his front legs to his back legs to produce a connective and more uphill way of going. We will teach the horse to take more responsibility in times of stress so he is able to reposition his body himself back to the relaxed correct posture.

My riding has improved immensely under the expert tutelage of Nicola and aboard the perfectly behaved Hoggy. My position, symmetry and body awareness has changed so much for the better and it’s been a great way to address aspects which I was struggling with on a real horse (half halts, clear leg aids, flying changes, I can go on…). Nicola’s knowledge, attention to detail and dedication to helping me improve has meant it’s been a real journey of discovery for me and Hoggy is so patient whilst insisting I get it right. I’ve been impressed too with how I’ve been able to translate these learned skills and corrected misdemeanours to riding my real life horse. He’s very grateful so thank you Nicola and Hoggy!

Hoggy gave me the opportunity for me to work on myself, increase my body awareness and play with alterations within my seat position, all without effecting my horse. As a Dressage rider it is important to have to space to solely focus on myself. We owe it to our horses to be the best version of ourselves.

Hoggy – and Nicola – are amazing and have helped me enormously. A real eye-opener when I first went, but they have helped me soften my lower back and straighten out my twists. Nicola has such a great eye and perceptiveness of what will help. My horse says thank you and congratulations Hoggy!
